Summer Scholars On Stage Receives Grant from Mississippi Arts Commission

Date: December 2025

Summer Scholars On Stage is pleased to announce that the program has received a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) in support of the camp’s 2026 programming.

This funding will help strengthen Summer Scholars’ mission of providing high-quality, accessible theatre education for students in grades 7–12 from across Mississippi. The grant supports key components of the camp experience, including instruction in performance, writing, and technical theatre, as well as the collaborative process that culminates in a fully staged production.

“We are deeply grateful to the Mississippi Arts Commission for recognizing the value of arts education and its impact on young people. This support helps ensure that students from a wide range of backgrounds have the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop confidence, and experience the power of storytelling through theatre.” — Stephen Cunetto, Camp Director

Summer Scholars On Stage operates through a combination of student tuition, local sponsorships, grants, and donations, without direct university funding. Support from organizations such as the Mississippi Arts Commission plays a vital role in sustaining the camp and expanding opportunities for Mississippi’s next generation of artists.

This project is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
